Beltsville, Maryland, November 27th, 2017 – In partnership with HeroHomes and Loudoun Valley Floors, Horizon Forest Products recently donated flooring to help build a new home for a wounded veteran in Round Hill, Virginia.
The recipient for this home is Staff Sergeant Jarrad Davenport. At 17 years old, Jarrad enlisted in the United States Navy and completed Basic Training. After his first enlistment, he transferred to the US Army Reserves. He is a graduate of the Army Finance School where he was awarded the Military Occupational Skill 36B Finance. He is also a graduate of the Warrior Leadership Course where he was a Platoon Sergeant. Jarrad volunteered to deploy with 2/376th Financial Combat Support Unit in Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. In June of 2011, he was wounded during an IRAM rocket attack at an outpost in Iraq.
When the staff at HeroHomes learned about Jarrad’s injuries, they were ready to provide assistance to the wounded veteran. HeroHomes is a 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation that was established to build houses for veterans who have fought for the preservation of freedom and democracy. These deserving soliders and their families cannot regain what they lost defending America, but the goal of the organization is to provide the opportunity for disabled veterans to rejoin society with the security and pride of home ownership.
When Loudoun Valley Floors reached out to Horizon Forest Products on behalf of HeroHomes, Outside Sales Rep Ed Nuckols was pleased to have the opportunity to help. “Wounded veterans face a challenging road to recovery back into civilian life,” said Nuckols. “This journey is made easier because of the programs and services HeroHomes offers. We’re extremely grateful and proud to support them.”
The home is situated on a beautiful 5-acre lot where Jarrad will soon live with his wife and three children once the home has been completed. HeroHomes is really working with this family to address their needs. “We couldn’t ask for more,” said Jarad.
